Formula Explained
The glycemic load (GL) is a more practical measure than GI alone. It answers: given the actual serving, how much will this food affect blood sugar? Low GL is 10 or less; medium GL is 11–19; high GL is 20 or more. A regular 12 oz lager often lands near the low-to-medium boundary, which is why beer can be moderate despite having a fairly high GI.
